Donald Ruiz

Donald R. Ruiz, 58, a resident of Davenport, died unexpectedly Monday, October 21, 2019 at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.  A Memorial Mass celebrating Don’s life will be at Noon Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport.  Visitation will be 10:00AM until the Mass at the church.  Cremation rites have been accorded. Don’s generous giving spirit will live on through organ donation. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald Richard Ruiz was born July 22, 1961 in Davenport the son of Porfirio “Porky” and Amelia “Millie” (Flores) Ruiz.  He graduated in 1979 from Assumption High School.  He was united in marriage to Kendie Thurness in 1989, they later divorced.  In earlier years he had been employed at the Blackhawk Foundry.

Don umpired men’s, women’s, and girls softball at Green Valley in Moline, Lindsey Park in Davenport, and just about anywhere else the game was being played.  He was a “self-proclaimed” handyman.  He was a Cubs and Hawkeyes fan, enjoyed karaoke, and doing impressions; he was a jokester, the “funny uncle” and just had a great sense of humor.

His memory will be cherished by his son, Kyle (Ana Martinez) Ruiz, Moline; grandchildren, Amadeus, Enrique and Apollo; his siblings, Mary Ellen Ruiz and Nancy Bribriesco both of Rock Island, Vickie (Art) Belman, E. Moline, Valerie Ruiz, Deb Ruiz and Wendy (Steve) Brandt all of Davenport; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dan Ruiz, sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Dennis Reynolds; God daughter, Arrica Belman, and a nephew-in-law AJ Malone.
