Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for William “Bill” Wesley Ehlers, 69, a life long resident of Davenport will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Bill died Thursday, November 29, 2018, at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on June 14, 1949, in Davenport. He was the son of Edward and Velma (Schmidt) Ehlers. Bill was united in marriage to Sheila Ann Schmitt on July 15, 1989, at Christ the King Chapel, St. Ambrose University. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Bill graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1971, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. During high school and college he was employed by Bawden Printing Company, Davenport. Bill owned and operated Crown Advertising from 1973-1995. He was the current owner of Quad City Ultralight Aircraft Corporation, which he founded in 1982. Bill was a proud member of the Davenport Rotary Club for many years. Bill's greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family especially his granddaughter, Madelyn. “Papa” treasured the times when he would pick Madi up from school and stop for an ice cream treat on their way home. He also enjoyed traveling, spending time at his ‘camp’ on the Wapsi, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sheila; daughter, Bridget (Joe) Burns, granddaughter, Madelyn, Davenport; brother, John (Jeana) Ehlers, Calamus, IA; sister, Linda (Jimmy) Turner, Clarkesville, GA; and extended family including many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mario Sy and his staff, as well as all of the doctors and nurses who have provided outstanding medical care over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Care and Share Program, or a scholarship to be established in Bill’s memory.
