Wayne Rea

Wayne Rea, 69, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 20, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2018 and burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Wayne was born on November 24, 1947 in Carthage, Missouri, a son of A. David and Pearl (Smith) Rea. He proudly served our country in the Army for two years. Wayne was united in marriage to Betty A. Flynn on July 3, 1976 in Rock Island. They have shared over 41 years of marriage together.

Wayne retired as a heavy equipment operator in 2010 from Harris Excavating.

He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty, Bettendorf; children: Aimee (Scott) Pettit, Missouri, Becky (Ken) Beeler, Missouri, Brian (Wendy) Metzger, Hoschton, Georgia, and Jennifer (Scott) Asher, Suwanee, Georgia; grandchildren: Cody, Meghan, Brandon, Hailey, Brittany, Nick, Ben, Julia, Ayslinn, and Delaney; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Carlene) Rea, Fargo, Georgia, brother-in-law, Ed Flynn, Cambodia and Tom (Marylee) Flynn, Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by a son, Chris McClure, a sister, Donna LaFur, a brother, Larry Rea, and a nephew Trenton Bevans.

A special thank you to Betty’s nephew, Troy Bevans for being with her at the time of Wayne’s passing and all the nurses and staff of Genesis Hospice for the compassion and kindness shown to the Rea family.
