The good Lord has called home His faithful daughter, Virginia Ruth Duffy, 97, of Davenport. Ginny passed away at 5:32 a.m. on Sunday April 16th at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf surrounded by her loving family. Services will be coordinated by Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Visitation and funeral services will be held at St. Anthony Church in downtown Davenport on Friday April 21, 2023. The visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Center with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. in the church. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting St. Anthony Catholic Church Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband, Tom.
Ginny was born on September 21, 1925 in Rock Island, Illinois to Fred and Alpha (Hartmann) Atkinson. Ginny graduated from Rock Island High School in 1944. After graduation she worked in the Registrar’s Office at St. Ambrose College in Davenport. Ginny was united in marriage to Thomas J. Duffy, Jr on June 18, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Ginny and Tom had six children: Kathleen (Don) VanDeWoestyne, Bettendorf; Patrick (Jenny) Duffy, Iowa City; Sharon Woodworth, Bettendorf; Michael Duffy, Davenport; Eileen Culpepper, Davenport and Daniel Duffy, Ames. Ginny devoted her life to her children as a stay-at-home mother. Ginny and Tom were members of St. Paul the Apostle Church early in their marriage, then became long-time members of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Ginny was a long-time Cubs fan, as well as, an avid follower of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved traveling to visit her family and friends. Ginny especially looked forward to Sunday evening dinners with her family.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Rod Atkinson, Bettendorf. She is survived by all six children, nine grandchildren (Scott, Sara, Tommy, Michael, Charlie, Rachel, Grant, Mariah and Tanner), and three great-grandchildren (Cole, Camryn and Corbyn).
The family is very appreciative of all the wonderful healthcare providers who cared for mom.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to St. Anthony Church-Care and Share program.
