Veronica Teresa Bittner, 92, of Davenport, formerly of Solon, Iowa, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, May 2nd at her home. Private family services will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport, IA, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Solon, IA.
Veronica was born on June 5, 1927, in Kinross, IA, to Rose and Thomas Frank Walsh. She attended school in Kinross and Keota. After her father passed away, she moved to Cedar Rapids and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in 1945.
Veronica married Maurice Bittner on September 29, 1952, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They lived and raised their family in Solon, IA, where they were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church. After Maurice's retirement in 1991 Veronica and Maurie enjoyed traveling, including attending many of his WWII 73rd Bomb Wing reunions. They made lifelong friendships with some of the "Greatest Generation".
Veronica moved to Davenport where she was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She is survived by daughters Ellen Rose Bittner (Luigi Gorini) of Bozeman, MT, Amy Maurie Bittner of Davenport, IA, son Thomas Frank Bittner of Cedar Rapids, IA, granddaughters Riannan Marie Peterson of Punta Gorda, FL, Anndria Maurine Shannon (Ryan Shannon) of Ames, IA, great-grandchildren Aubrey Ann Shannon, Braxton Charles Shannon, Alayna Teresa Irene Shannon, and many nieces and nephews. Veronica was preceded in death by her husband Maurice on June 20, 1999, her daughter Teresa Ann on November 7, 2013, her parents, sisters Mary Catherine, Benita, Cecelia, and brothers Paul, Harold and Hugh. Veronica loved her family and friends, who will always remember her as cheerful, patient, kind and loving. She will be greatly missed by all.
