Verlyn W. "Doc" Heine

Dr. Verlyn William “Doc” Heine, 83, of Riverdale, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2023 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bettendorf, Iowa. The service will be livestreamed by visiting: Our Savior Lutheran Church  Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church.  Private family burial will be in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Verlyn was born on March 23, 1940, the son of Martin and Lorena (Edeker) Heine. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1958. Verlyn continued his studies at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa and then Palmer College of Chiropractic where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in October of 1964. During his years of study, Verlyn was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maxine Schwerdtfeger on June 22, 1962. Verlyn and Maxine moved to Oelwein, Iowa and were blessed with three children: Sheri, Nancy and Michael.

In November 1964, Doc opened his first Chiropractic care office in Oelwein. For over 50 years he provided care to countless patients, family, and friends retiring in November of 2014. He took great pride in his work and truly loved helping people. Verlyn was a man of God with faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bettendorf. Throughout his adult life, Doc was active in his community holding many volunteer and leadership roles in the Church, Iowa Chiropractic Society, conservations clubs, and Chamber of Commerce. Verlyn had many hobbies including Cushman scooters, country music, playing cards and cherished spending time with his family and friends.

Verlyn is survived by his wife of 61 years: Maxine Heine, Bettendorf; three children: Sheri (Craig) Turner, Blountville, Tennessee , Nancy (Dr. David) Pratt of Lakeville, Minnesota & Michael (Jamie) Heine of LeClaire, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Branden & Dr. Andrew Turner, Dr. Eric (Alexa) Turner, Justin (Elizabeth) Pratt, Ashley (Jack) King, Austin Pratt, Rachel, Sydney & Isabel Heine; four great-grandchildren: Lincoln & Liam Turner, Harrison King & Ava Pratt; sister: Lois Depuew of Fredericksburg, Iowa.
