Tom Voss, born Oct. 6, 1935 in Davenport, IA to John Richard Henry Voss and Mildred Myriam Paustian, passed away at age 88 on Nov. 29, 2023.
He is survived by his wife Beverley, sons Ben (Trish) and Todd (Fern), sisters Elaine (Joe) and Kris, and brother Fritz. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jerry.
Tom grew up on Harbor Rd., in Southwest Davenport, along the Mississippi River. He attended Monroe and Fairview elementary, Frank L. Smart Jr. High and Davenport High schools. Tom began his working career while in high school, as an electrical, sound system, and film projector technician. This led him to work at Blackhawk Films (formerly The Easton-Phelan Corp.), from 1955 to1985, when he retired as one of the owners of Blackhawk Films. He also served in the Iowa National Guard.
After his retirement, Tom began his second career as a custom furniture maker. He regularly exhibited and sold his furniture at Davenport area outdoor art fairs, winning numerous awards. His furniture is in many homes and private collections in the Quad Cities and across the country, including a piece at The Figge Art Museum.
Tom was a long-time member of The Quad-Cities Archaeological Society. He was an avid reader, gardener and beekeeper. He enjoyed watching and feeding birds and squirrels, and loved dogs.
He was respected and loved by his family, friends and colleagues. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all.
