Tom Hopkins, 82, of Davenport, died Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Genesis East, Davenport.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Tom’s life will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting St. Anthony's Catholic Church The family will greet friends on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Additional visitation will be Friday from 1 until 1:30 p.m. in the gathering space at church. Burial will take place at a later date in Shannon Brethren Cemetery, Shannon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Common Chord.
John Thomas Hopkins was born on May 29, 1941 in Freeport, Illinois, a son of Herschel W. and Joanna (Cunningham) Hopkins. He graduated in 1959 from Mt. Carroll High School. Tom was united in marriage to Loxi Meyers on May 29, 1960 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
Tom spent a lifetime as “your friend in the car business” working in both service and sales throughout his 60 year career. He wore many hats including owning Hopkins Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, GMC in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. He retired from Lexus of the Quad Cities in 2021.
Tom loved talking with people. Many of his customers and friends knew him as “Hoppy the Web Guy”. He loved to take care of his customers, and earned a reputation as a guy you could trust. He enjoyed camping, relaxing in a hammock, woodworking and watching racing. Tom could fix anything and had a spare part for about any project you could imagine. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and taught them sometimes you need to put on the “Happy Hat” which would change the mood in any situation.
Those left to cherish Tom’s memory are his wife, Loxi, Davenport; children: Tom Hopkins, Austin, Texas, Tracy (Matt) Schwind, Davenport, Todd (Kiki) Hopkins, Davenport, Trisha (Larry) Kaufman, Berwyn, Illinois, and Brandon Koch, Davenport; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty Ann Burke, and Rick Hopkins, both of Anchorage, Alaska.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Hopkins, his parents, and a sister, Nancy Christensen. May they rest in peace.
