Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Thérése M. Brown, 90, resident of Bettendorf, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2021, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting St. John Vianney’s website at https://www.sjvbett.org/ Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25, Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Thérése passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at UnityPoint-Trinity-Rock Island.
Thérése Bertin was born October 2, 1930 in Cairo, Egypt, daughter of Henri and Marie Bertin. She moved to her native France, in 1951, and worked for Givenchy. Thérése married Hugh W. Brown June 23, 1962 in Paris, France and moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Hugh preceded her in death in 2019.
Thérése raised her family and worked with her husband in the family bakery, in Albert Lea. The family moved to Bettendorf, in 1973, and operated Brown’s Pastries. They retired in 1996. Thérése was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling, and cooking.
Those left to honor Thérése’s memory include her children: Marianne Hynes, Kona, Hawaii; Anne Marie (Max Ranney) Brown, Wichita, Kansas; Elisabeth (John) Nelson, Moline; and Joseph Brown, Bettendorf; grandchildren: Karl Hynes, Jr. (Samantha); Yvonne Fisher (Chris); Kris Hynes; Kraig Hynes; Lucas Ranney-Brown; and Benjamin Nelson; and great-grandchildren Cody Fisher; and Kaila Fisher. And, brother Raymond Bertin; and sister Henrietta (Ellwood) Reim; and extended family members. Thérése is blessed to have dear friends Earl and Rosemary Colstrup.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jean (Annette) Bertin, Gaston (Josette), and Hedi Bertin.
