Steven Dale Holifield was born on October 6, 1954, to Geneva Jean McNeal and D.L. Holifield. Both parents preceded him in death.

Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 16, 2024, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.

An identical twin to his older brother Stanley, born five minutes before him, Steve, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends and was loved by many. 

Steve attended and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago, IL. He was a dedicated man who took pride in his work, contributing his talents to several fields. 

A die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, Steve had a passion for fashion and loved the blues. Few could outdress him, and when his favorite song played, everyone around him was in for a good time. Steve was the life of the party, Steve also enjoyed playing the lottery, playing scratch off tickets as well as watching westerns and spending time with people and his loved ones. His influence will live on through the many lives he touched. 

The sixth out of ten children, Steve leaves behind to cherish his memory: Walter McNeal (deceased), Linda (Maurice) Buckhanan, Kenneth Holifield, Brenda (Willie) Evans, Stanley Holifield (twin brother), Cynthia (Ronald Sr.) McGhee, Constance (David) Sandbakken, Angela Hughes, and Alvin Keith (Elaine) Hughes, Jr. 

Steve was blessed with and left behind his family who loved and cared for him until he took his last breath. His daughter Theresa Lopez was his devoted caretaker, along with Stevens loving family, includes sons Corey Lopez, James (Tena) Gay, BillyJo Lopez, Grandchildren Shalonda Benson, Sherman Williams Jr (Ej) and ShiAnna Lopez. Great grandchildren include Jahkyi March, Ka’Mari Williams and Giovani Lopez as well as a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren he leaves behind to cherish his love. Our hearts weren’t ready. 

Uncle Steve had special relationships with his nieces and nephews including LaTonya, LaBree, Dale, Kenneth, Kathleen, Willie Jr., Terry, Darnell, LaDonna (deceased), Jacqueline, Ronald Jr., April, Erica, Andy, Carl Jr. (deceased), Tiffany, and Alisha. Steve also had a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom loved him and are proud to carry his legacy of strength, willpower, and determination.
