Steve VanLandschoot

Joseph “Steve” Van Landschoot passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Eagle Crest South Memory Care 1 in La Crosse Wisconsin. Steve was born November 2, 1951 in East Moline Illinois to Joseph and Mary Van Landschoot (nee Karcher). He graduated from Assumption Catholic High School in Davenport, Iowa. He went on to get an applied Science Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Scott Community College in 1981 and finished his education with a BS degree from Bradley University in 1983. He moved to El Segundo, California, where he was employed by Hughes Air Crafts, working on F-14 radar systems. Steve decided he wanted to move back to the Midwest area to be closer to family. He did many temporary jobs before he was hired by Medtronics in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked as a project and troubleshooting technician. His team worked in a “white” room where they helped with advancements, making medical implants smaller.

Steve was a true outdoorsman who liked the solitude he found in nature. He never owned a television. He found enjoyment in life: hiking and camping in the mountains and terrains of California, the West, and the Midwest; bird watching and fishing were his true passions. He was a very detailed man in all that he pursued. He lived his life to the fullest.

He was a very avid reader who, at one time, read the entire encyclopedia set for his learning enjoyment. His other reading and knowledge loves included: history–from ancient times to current global events-and any geography books or maps that he could study. There weren’t many subjects that he didn’t have some knowledge about. Steve also enjoyed working on his computer, making graphs of interesting facts he researched. He listened to soft rock and classic music. The flash mob playing of “Ode to Joy” was his favorite music video and the song “Ripple” by Grateful Dead was his favorite song.

He truly loved his family and held a special place in his heart for all of his nieces and nephews. Steve is survived by nine younger siblings and their spouses.

He will be missed immensely by those that knew, loved, and cared for him, especially those at Eagle Crest South Memory Care 1. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to them for the quality and loving care they provided for Steve. They helped him experience a beautiful and dignified end of life. Their compassionate care was amazing. Thanks also to St. Croix Hospice care for all the compassion and assistance given in Steve’s final months. The family is also very appreciative of the excellent medical and personal care he received from his special medical friends at Emplify Health.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 515 North Main Street, Holmen Wisconsin.
