Stephen Frutos

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Stephen Z. Frutos, 81, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery – Arsenal Island.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Mr. Frutos died Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

Stephen was born on October 3, 1938 in Davenport, a son of Nazario and Juanita (Juarez) Frutos.  He proudly served our county in the Navy from 1956 until 1959. He married Lillian Gomez in April of 1962 in Peoria, Illinois.  They later divorced.

Stephen worked for Farmall as a fork lift operator.  He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed being around his family.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include his children: Desiree (Val Martinez) Salas, Silvis, Dion Frutos, East Moline, and Yolanda (Joe) Tapia, Jacksonville, Florida; a sister, Ramona (Charles) Cruz, Silvis; twelve grandchildren and many loving great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Stephen’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the 5th Floor East Wing and the Respiratory Unit for all the compassion and loving care they shared.
