Sister Joanne Di Iulio CHM, 92 died December 8, 2018 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, IA.
Visitation at Humility of Mary Center, Davenport will be Friday, December 14 beginning with a Rosary at 4pm and ending with a wake service at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, December 15 at 11:00am at the Humility of Mary Center followed by interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joanne Angeline Di Iulio was born March 3, 1926 in Silvis, IL to Loreto Di Iulio and Maria Branchetti Di Iulio. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1949, professing vows in 1951.
Sister’s education included: BA from Marycrest College, Davenport, IA; MA from St. Louis University in Spanish; post graduate study at George Peabody College, Nashville, TN.
For forty-five years she taught in high schools in Illinois, Iowa and Montana, notably for almost 25 years at Alleman High School in Rock Island, IL. She was a substitute Spanish teacher at Alleman for an additional six years and then volunteered at Black Hawk Community College with the ESL-Life Program. She also accompanied students on study trips to Spain and Mexico.
Sister lived with her aging mother for several years in East Moline before retiring to Humility of Mary Center in 2005 and then to Bishop Drumm in 2011.
Survivors include sister-in-law Joan Di Iulio and nephews Domenico (Carolyn), Michael (Adrienne), Peter (Jeri), Christopher (Sandra) and
Joseph (Lisa), as well as Sisters and Associates of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Domenico and infant sister Anna.
Memorials may be made to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary.
