Funeral services for Shirley A. Russey, 84, of Davenport, will be 1p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Visitation will be Saturday from 12p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Please be at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to go in procession.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Shirley Ann Schanette was born on July 12, 1935 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a daughter of Arthur and Helen (Goff) Schanette.  She was united in marriage to Robert Jenkins.  He preceded her in death on April 19, 1969.  She later married James Russey on March 5, 1977 in Rock Island.  He preceded her in death on April 20, 2016.

Shirley retired from Catepillar in 1989.   Following her retirement, she and Jim owned and operated a local convenience store located on Marquette.

Shirley loved to cook and share her Creole background with others, especially known for her gumbo! She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, trips to the casino and spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses: Robert “Chris” Jenkins, Iowa, Robyn Johnson, Orange County, California, Tameria Jenkins, Washington, Randall Jenkins, Sheila (Juan) Shelton, Tara (Antwan) Harper, all of Davenport; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Warner Marshall, New Mexico.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Andre Jenkins, a son-in-law, Tolly Johnson, grandchildren, China Wilburn and Robert McCorkle Johnson, her parents, and aunt and uncle who were more like second parents: Betty and Marcel Aguillard.

The Jenkins/Russey family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Heartland Hospice and Dr. Allison Sowers for all the compassionate care they shared with Shirley.
