Shirley J. Hillebrand

Shirley was born in Carthage, Illinois, on April 2, 1937, to Henry and Elsie Rosenboom.

She graduated from Davenport High School in 1955. She married Kenneth Hillebrand on September 21, 1955, in Davenport. Kenneth passed away on October 20, 2018, after 63 years of marriage.

Ken and Shirley had six children together. Shirley spent most of their childhood shuttling and attending all the sports activities for each. She rarely missed a game, and only then due to multiple games at the same time. She was a fantastic mother, never claiming one child as a favorite, even though they did their best to get it out of her! After the children were all in school, Shirley was employed at Sue’s Hallmark in Davenport, retiring in 1993, after eight years. Ken and Shirley spent 19 winters in Mesa, Arizona, in their retirement years.

Shirley had a cheerful disposition, usually with a smile on her face, and a quick laugh.  When asked how she wanted to be remembered she simply said “As a good person.” She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley was a charter member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Davenport. Funeral services will follow visitation at 10:30 am. Luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus in Davenport after the interment at Davenport Memorial Park. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries assisted the family with arrangements.

Shirley is survived by her children Mark (Beth) Hillebrand of Maquoketa, Jeff (Cyndi) Hillebrand of Davenport, Brian (Julie) Hillebrand of Urbandale, Jim Hillebrand of Bettendorf, Donald (Linda) Hillebrand of Overland Park, KS, and Linda (Scott) Wendt of Nevada, and honorary daughter Inge-Marie (Jimmy) Sørenson of Aars, Denmark; her 20 grandchildren; and her 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, granddaughter, Jamila Hillebrand, and great grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, and Chiara Wendt.
