Sheila Ann Feeney, 80, passed away on June 14, 2020. She resided in Centennial, CO at a Rose of Sharon assisted living residential home. She was born in Davenport, IA, on June 29, 1939, to Mark and Mary (Sterck) Feeney. Sheila was preceded in death by her brother, Rev. Msgr. Leo J. Feeney.
After graduating from Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport, she became a member of the set of 1957 of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubuque, IA. Sheila maintained her association with the Sisters of Charity of the BVM’s throughout her life, and became an Associate on June 1, 1996. She received her degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, and received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976.
Sheila taught school for 29 years in the Denver Public School system, almost entirely teaching social studies at East High School. One of Sheila’s proudest moments at East was sponsoring a team of Constitutional Scholars that won a national competition in 1988 in Washington, D.C. After retiring in 1992, Sheila was a substitute teacher for six years, primarily in Cherry Creek Schools.
Sheila loved life, church, family, and friends. She kept very busy with regular lunches with a cadre of friends and family. She volunteered her time as a Eucharistic Minister for nursing homes through her parish. The Broncos held a special place in her heart, and was a longtime season ticket holder in the south stands at the old Mile High Stadium. She was a prolific reader, loved puzzle books, and was glued to watching Meet the Press, PBS, NCIS, and 60 Minutes.
