Donald “Scott” McDonald, 66, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on July 12, 2024.
Scott was born on September 19, 1957, to Alice (von Maur) and Donald McDonald of Davenport, Iowa. He grew up on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi river. He graduated from Wayland Academy in 1976, where he made lifelong friendships and then went onto Marietta College in Marietta, OH where he met his wife, Karen McDonald. Scott is survived by daughters Meghan (Connor) Bieling of Fairfield County, CT and Madeleine McDonald of Frankfort, KY.
He took after his father, a WWII veteran, with his love of country and history. He also had a passion for music, passed down to him by his grandmother Elsie von Maur.
Scott’s active nature and sense of adventure took him around the world. He was an avid cyclist, skier, golfer, and lover of the outdoors. Scott always returned home to Iowa to be with family and friends, eventually making Pleasant Valley his permanent home. He loved nothing more than being near and overlooking the Mississippi.
His caring spirit, generosity, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. He collected friends at every stage of life. He brought immense joy and laughter with his Neil Young impression, achieving a seemingly impossible falsetto.
Additionally, Scott is survived by his sisters, Ann McDonald of Denver, CO, Holly McDonald of Atlanta, GA, and Brooke (Marc) Maudhuit of London, UK and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and members of his loving family.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport, on Thursday July 18 at 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous via campcourageous.org.
