Saverio Anania

Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Saverio Anania, 80, Moline, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service at 4:00p.m. Saverio passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Saverio was born on October 29, 1937 in Pittsburgh, the son of Frank and Josephine (Bruno) Anania. He graduated Central Catholic High School in 1955. He served in the Navy for 3 years, spending the majority of his time stationed on the island of Guam. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Ercole on June 1, 1963 in Pittsburgh. They were married for 46 years until she preceded him in death on March 11, 2010.
Saverio, known as “Hoot”, was a very successful barber and businessman, as owner of the Anania Barber Shop in Mt Washington for over 40 years. “Hoot” was well known, respected and loved by many for his gift of storytelling and his charitable heart throughout Mt Washington and the larger Pittsburgh community. He enjoyed his daily walks, meeting, talking and helping others, occasionally having an ice cream while walking home. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughters, Dr. Tina (Dr. Aric) Eckhardt, Coal Valley, IL and Mary Beth Mayer, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Brandon, Giavanna, Andrew, and Courtney; three brothers, Joseph Anania, Frank (Emme) Anania, and Salvatore (Sandy) Anania, all of Pittsburgh.
