Sara K. Cox

Memorial services celebrating the life of Sara Cox, 44, of Davenport, will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.  Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  Private inurnment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Pet Rescue or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mrs. Cox passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 6, 2024, at the University of Iowa.

Sara Kathryn Schneider was born May 16, 1979, in Davenport, a daughter of Doug and Becky (Smith) Schneider.  She was united in marriage to Kevin Cox on July 16, 2009.

Sara graduated from JD Darnall Senior High School in Geneseo, class of 1997, and later Blackhawk Community College.

She had been a CNA and an EMT before working 23 years at the family business, Bill’s Moving and Storage. She has also worked in sales at Banter since 2016.

Sara loved to read, the outdoors, camping, and all dogs.  She could carry on a conversation and would talk to anyone, making instant friends.  She cared about others and found the good in everyone.  Her final act of caring was being an organ donor.

Those left to honor her memory include husband Kevin; daughter Alexis “Lexi” Wilkens; mother Becky Schneider, all of Davenport; and sister Kristin (Adam) Martin of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her father in 2007 and son Kevin Douglas Cox in 2009.
