Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Sandra K. “Sandy” DePyper, 83, of Bettendorf, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2024 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Prophetstown, Illinois. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at church. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sandy died Saturday, October 26, 2024 at The Summitt of Bettendorf surrounded by her family.
Sandra Kay Nesham was born on February 4, 1941 in Rock Island, Illinois, a daughter of Charles T. and Joyce E. (Stifter) Nesham. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1959. Sandy met monthly with her Alleman classmates which were known as “The Club.” Sandy married Tommie Engle in 1962 and they had three children. Sandy later was united in married to Donald J. DePyper on January 1, 1995 in St. Augustine, Florida.
Sandy worked as a secretary for over 30 years at John Deere & Company, retiring in 2000.
Sandy enjoyed travelling, especially just getting out and going for a drive and was known for randomly breaking out in song. She and Don wintered in Florida for many years. She also enjoyed playing bingo and loved attending all of her kid’s sporting events with her cow bell!
Sandy was a woman of great faith, and a former member of St. Catherine’s in Prophetstown, St. Anthony, Davenport, and St. John Vianney in Bettendorf. She was a lector and eucharistic minister and had sung in the choir.
Those left to honor her memory is her husband, Don, Bettendorf; children: Clint Engle, Moline and Michelle (Jon) Bargren, Tiffin, Iowa; step-children: Kim (Bob) Roman, Atkinson, Illinois, and Anthony (Cindy) DePyper, Rochester, Indiana; grandchildren: Nicholas Bargren and Katlyn (Ben) Wyant; great-grandchildren: Sophia and Charlie; as well as other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother: John (Lisa) Wiegel, Illinois City, Illinois, and a sister-in-law, Arleen Neshem, Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Engle, parents, and siblings: Tommy Nesham, Jody Paetz, and Darell “Butch” Nesham. May they rest in peace.
