Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sally L. Dorris, 79, of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Adventure Christian Church. Sally died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Trinity, Bettendorf.
Sally Lou Scherz was born on January 4, 1943 in Davenport, a daughter of Louis and Helen (Jehring) Scherz. She was part of the first graduating class of West High School in 1961. Sally was united in marriage to David W. Dorris on September 1, 1962 at Grace United Methodist Church. They have shared over 60 years of marriage and memories together.
Sally retired as HR Manager at Sears Roebuck, Co. at Northpark Mall following 20 years of service.
Sally enjoyed gardening and was known for her day lilies and Hosta plants and recently she enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds. In her younger years, she enjoyed bargain hunting at garage sales and watching NASCAR, especially when Dale, Jr. was racing. Sally was part of a card club that had been getting together of over 50 years where she cherished many lifelong friendships. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their activities that they participated in such as sports, band and orchestra activities.
Survivors include her loving husband, David; children: Doug (Lisa) Dorris, Muscatine, Wendy (Todd) Bartels, Davenport; grandchildren: Brandon (Sraddha) Dorris, Rachel (Keegan Ginster) Dorris, Zachary and Colton Bartels; a sister, Susan Scherz, Zephyrhills, Florida, and extended family.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lou Scherz.
