Ruby Burton

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ruby Lee Burton, 90, a resident of Davenport, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. Per her wishes, the rite of cremation will be accorded following the service. The family will greet friends from 10:30am until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family. Ruby Lee passed away Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

Ruby Lee Archie was born May 31, 1931, in Rosedale, Mississippi, a daughter of Willie Archer D. and Maggie L. Bibb. She married Luther Burton and he preceded her in death. Ruby decided to leave Mississippi and moved to Chicago raising six children. Ruby Lee was self-employed as a housekeeper. She enjoyed going to church, wearing hats and spending time with her family. Ruby became a member of Grace Temple Holiness Church, Chicago under the late Pastor Jack Carter.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters;  Shirley Peterson; and Elaine (Ralph) Pritchett, all of Davenport; her two sons; Leon Burton, Chicago, and Howard Burton, Davenport; six grandchildren; Tricey, Angela, Nickeema “ReRe”, Diamond, Gale, and Cozette; nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; siblings: Emmitt Wyldon, Detroit, Michigan, Fanny Johnson, Chicago; and Geraldine Wyldon, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Luther, daughters: Yvonne Burton and Elizabeth Burton and siblings:  Sarah Newton Howard Slater, Obrien Wyldon, TJ Wyldon, Levan Wyldon, Milton Wyldon, and her special friend, Norma Jean Raggs.
