Ron Edward "RJ" Johnson

     Ron Edward "RJ" Johnson, age 67, of Davenport, passed away at home on January 22, 2023. Ron was born July 5, 1955 in Davenport, to Eugene and Mary (Schloemer) Johnson. He attended St. Alphonsus and Assumption Schools. After high school Ron became a carpenter apprentice and went on to have a 37-year career as a carpenter with Local 4 Union.

     Ron married Jerilyn Wilson on May 14, 1988; they enjoyed 34 years together raising their family, golfing, and visiting wineries. During retirement Ron became a home winemaker, producing a variety of fruit wines, and working on improving his golf game. Ron was a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport. He served many years as an Elder and was a member of the Property Committee, always lending a helping hand.

     Ron is survived by his wife Jerilyn; son Grady; daughters Emerald, Tessa (Alex) Karwath; grandchildren Tarique and Naseem Newman; his mother Mary; brothers Robert (Lori), Brian, Paul, and John (Diana); sisters Gloria Wrage, Cathy, Teresa (Harland) Sprout, and Joanie (Steve) Smith. He was preceded in death by his daughter Crystal Newman, father Eugene, brother Gary, and sister Virginia. Ron was well loved by his nieces and nephews, friends, and church family. "Well done good and faithful Servant" you will be missed.

   Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 30, 2023 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 9:30 until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newcomb Presbyterian Church or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
