A Memorial Mass for Robert L. Chanez, 77, of Bettendorf will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. There will be visitation Thursday at church from 9a.m. until 10a.m. Bob died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Genesis East, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Haitian Mission through St. John Vianney or American Cancer Society
Robert Louis Chanez was born August 10, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa the son of George August and Cresenta Katherine (Hiegel) Chanez. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from St Ambrose in 1962 with a BA in Business Administration. Bob had a 27 year career as an Engineer at John Deere retiring in 1994. He was united in marriage to Patricia Weigel on August 10, 1968 at Sacred Heart Church in Boone, Iowa.
Bob was a Leader of Boy Scout Troop #89 in Bettendorf for many years, enjoying many adventures with his boys. He was a volunteer at Mississippi Valley Blood Center, a member of Wheel & Steppers Square Club, the Merry Rounder’s Round Dance Club, St. John Vianney’s Forever Young +50 Group, Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the River as well as American Legion Post 26.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia, Bettendorf sons: Raymond (Tina) Chanez, Bettendorf, David (Susan) Chanez ,Davenport, Stephen (Kimberly) Chanez, St. Louis, MO, Kevin (Amy) Chanez, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Katherine, Matthew, Sara, Stephanie, Daniel, Jackson, Gabriella, Samuel and Gwyneth; two sisters, Linda Geiken, Davenport, and Cleo Osborn, Rock Island, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mary Ann Jacobsen, Susie Borth and Georgia Howard.
