Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Robert “Bob” Brooks Jr, 78, of Davenport, will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial with military honors will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 – 7 pm Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a Rosary Decade at 7 pm. There will be additional visitation one hour before Mass on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or any Veterans organization.
Mr. Brooks passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Robert Ellsworth Brooks Jr, was born November 13, 1945, in Davenport, a son of Robert and Rozari (Schultz) Brooks Sr. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, and Webster University, earning degrees in History and Computer Science. He met Diana Lease, and they were united in marriage on May 6, 1995, in Davenport.
Bob proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot and remained active in the Veterans community in the decades that followed. He was instrumental in planning and establishing the All-Veterans Memorial at Davenport Memorial Park.
Prior to his retirement, he had been a case worker with Human Services for the State of Illinois.
He loved history, listening to the oldies, volunteering with veteran’s organizations, and especially spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Genesis Hospice, Dr. Sorensen, and RNs Melissa and Kristi for the compassion shown to Bob.
Survivors include his wife, Diana; his children Monica Okie, John Thomas Brooks of Brunswick, GA; granddaughters Philadelphia Brooks-Morris, Rozari Brooks, Savannah Brooks; great grandchildren Brookelynn, Cameron, Millie, Finnley, and Georgia; siblings John Brooks of Lancaster, CA, Veronica Brooks of Davenport, Richard Brooks of New York; many nieces and nephews; and God daughters Carmarita Brooks-Modler and Sierra Brooks-Graham.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Roseanna Pitzer, parents, brother Ben Brooks, and sister Judy Johnson.
