Richard Alan Patterson, 84, of Davenport died Thursday, October 13, 2022.  Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday November 12, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport with visitation at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services.  Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens.  Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements. 

 

Richard Alan Patterson was born August 12, 1938 in Chicago and was the son of Charles Patterson and Ruth (Klingel) Patterson.  He was united in marriage to Kay Patterson (his high school sweetheart) on August 26, 1961.  Dick graduated from Lawrence University with a Bachelor’s Degree in music and did graduate work at Northwestern University.  He taught piano for 60 years, at one point having 90 students per week.  Dick served for 8 years as Festival Chairman for the Federated Music Teachers Association of the Quad Cities.  He and fellow piano teacher LaVonna Bartlett started the Baroque Festival which continues to be a yearly event in the Quad Cities.  Dick was also a talented composer and wrote a piano method course along with numerous pieces for solo piano. Dick was an avid sailor and he and Kay spent their summers at Lake Geneva sailing with family and friends.  A loving father and devoted grandfather, he was known for his wise and thoughtful advice.

 

Those left to honor his memory include his children; Elizabeth (Chris) Tadych, Oswego, Illinois, Richard (Mona) Patterson Jr., and Rebecca Patterson, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren; Nicholas, Andrew (Allie), Lauren, and William Tadych, Anna and Sarah Patterson; his sister, Patricia Borge, Elk Grove, Illinois, his brother-in-law Al (Anne) Turner of Winfield, Illinois; and numerous extended family, great friends, and former students.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Kay.
