Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Richard L. “Dick” Loos, 92, of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service offered at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Club or Holy Family Parish.
Dick passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Jersey Ridge Place, Davenport.
Richard Lee Loos was born on January 25, 1931 in Hedrick, Iowa, a son of Raymond and Mary May (Dean) Loos. He graduated from Ottosen High School in 1949. He earned a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Iowa but a sense of duty called and he enlisted in the Marine Corps and later served in the reserves. Dick played in the farm system of the Cleveland Indians.
Dick was united in marriage to Margaret “Eileen” Farber on January 14, 1961 in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2013.
Dick was a customer service representative for Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company. He retired in 1988 after 33 years of service. He served as past president of the Gas and Electric Credit Union.
Dick was an active member of Holy Family parish, serving as a past president of the Parish Council. He also was active with the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd Degree member of Loras Council 532.
Dick coached little league baseball at Northwest Little Legue, serving as their board president, he also coached girls basketball at Holy Family and softball at Assumption High School as well as served on their school board. He enjoyed golfing, achieving a hole-in-one at Rustic Ridge’s 7th hole during Knights of Columbus Golf League play. He also enjoyed bowling and fishing, especially in Minnesota and Canada, and spending winters in Sun City, Arizona with his bride, Eileen. Dick enjoyed rooting for his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Patty (Ron) Miller, Moline, Michael Loos (Karen Johnson), Davenport, Beth Loos, Moline, and Lea Ann Yazbek, Texas; grandchildren, Samantha (Landon) Geronzin, Eldridge, Billy (Jen) Hermanson, Davenport, Erinn (Rob) Horn, Atkinson, Illinois, and Courtney Loos (Nash Kroeger) and Brandon Loos, all of Davenport; great-grandchildren: Harper, Havyn, and James Joseph “JJ” Geronzin, Atticus Horn, and Kiptyn Kroeger, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Michelle Shaffer, his parents, and siblings: Raymond “Dean” Loos, Robert Loos, and Ramona Kinseth. May they rest in peace.
