Funeral services a Mass of Christian Burial for Richard G. Kleine, a resident of Bettendorf will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 a. m. in the gathering space at church. Mr. Kleine died on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at UnityPoint Health, Trinity Bettendorf.
Richard G. Kleine was born July 1, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of George Raymond and Valerie Anita (Garthoffner) Kleine. Dick was united in marriage to Mary Lou Miller on July 6, 1957 in Milwaukee, WI. Mary Lou passed away on October 11, 2008. Dick served our country as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-59.
Dick earned his BS in Industrial Engineering from St. Louis University, his MBA from the University of Iowa and at the age of 78, his Doctorate in Business from St. Ambrose University. He began a 38 year career with John Deere where he held various engineering and management positions in the manufacturing division at six different Deere locations, last serving as Vice President, Quality for Deere and Company, retiring in 1998.
Dick was actively involved in the Quad Cities community and numerous organizations through his leadership and philanthropic support. He served on the Board of Directors of the Carmelite System, Southeast Bank, Handicapped Development Center, Center for Active Seniors (CASI), and Quad Cities Community Foundation. He was a member of the Quad City Times Editorial Board, Davenport Rotary Club, Advisory Council for the Business School, at St. Ambrose University, served as Chairman of the United Way Campaign for the Quad Cities, and served as a trustee for his parish, St. John Vianney.
Dick is survived by his loving friend and companion, Jane Rouse, Moline IL; his son, Mark (Jeannette) Kleine, Galesburg, Illinois; grandson, Andrew (Danielle) Kleine, Englewood Florida; brothers, his twin Robert (Betty) Kleine, George (Helen) Kleine all of St. Louis, MO and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and a brother. May they rest in peace.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St John Vianney Catholic Church or Quad Cities Community Foundation.
