Richard was born on August 4, 1935 in Rock Island, Illinois, a son of Arthur and Claire (VandeVelde) Dennis. He married MaryAnne Woodworth who preceded him in death on September 3, 2000. He married Ruth Berthoud who preceded him in death on July 25, 1998. He married Heather Garrett on November 25, 1994 in Kahuku, Oahu.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force and Korean War from 1953 to 1956. He worked at R. L. Polk & Company, Detroit, Michigan for 37 years, retiring in 1992 as Sr. Vice President and National Production Manager. He was very driven and truly cared for his employees. Richard started in an entry-level position at R. L. Polk and worked his way up; that speaks volumes as to what kind of person he is. He was a former runner and supported and encouraged his children in their sports, music, work, and school activities. He enjoyed Western movies and “Old School” country music, especially Johnny Cash. He also was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. Above all, he loved his wife and would light up when talking about his children and family.
