Raymond A. Wiest, 81, a resident of Port Byron, Illinois and Goodyear, Arizona passed away suddenly Friday, November 2, 2018.

Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Ray will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 518 E. 10th Street, Davenport.  Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m.until the time of the Mass in the gathering space at the Cathedral.  Memorials may be made to Crosier Fathers, 717 E. Southern Ave. Phoenix, Arizona 85040. A celebration of Ray’s life will take place in Riverside and Phoenix at a later date.

Raymond Arnold Wiest was born on July 27, 1937 in Riverside, California, a son of Christopher F. and Frances C. (Bushman) Wiest.  The Wiest family have been in Riverside for over 100 years. He attended Long Beach State.  Ray owned and operated Wiest Rentals and Sales alongside his father and brother in Riverside.  He owned R.A. Wiest Construction and later W.W. Construction and Maintenance alongside his son-in-law Woody.  Ray also sat on many corporate boards and farmed in Missouri for over 20 years.

Ray was united in marriage to Candace Hunter on October 15, 1994 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ray was a man of many talents, he could fix and grow anything.  He was never afraid to take a risk in his life and try new things.  Ray also had many interests in his life including racing boats as a young man, his car club The Torquers, dancing, horseback riding as part of the Riverside Rancheros, traveling, especially to Hawaii, and enjoying fine wine.  Ray especially adored his family, and loved to tease and joke with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Candace, Goodyear, Arizona; children: Stephanie Wiest, San Clemente, California, David Wiest, Riverside, California, Amy (Patrick) Paul, Phoenix, Arizona, Wendy (Woody) Woodward, Riverside, California, Rena (Dave) Morse, Davenport, and John (Jennifer) Suter, Whittier, California; twelve grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sharon (Joe) Abruzzo, Manhasset, New York, Ken (Michel) Hunter, Davenport, and Tammy (Paul) Flynn, Blue Grass; and a special niece and nephew, Amy and Gary Johnston, Port Byron, Illinois.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Joseph Wiest and Mary Margaret “Boots” Hanblen.  May they rest in peace.
