A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Raul J. Tamayo, 73, of Davenport, will be held from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Per his request the rite of cremation was accorded. Memorials may be made to Kings Harvest Pet Rescue.
Mr. Tamayo passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at his home.
Raul Jesse Tamayo was born April 17, 1948 in Rock Island, the son of Jesse and Natalie (Garcia) Tamayo. He was united in marriage to Christine Ramirez.
He earned his Culinary Arts degree from the former Marycrest College and was a sous chef and chef for several area restaurants before his retirement from Steventon’s restaurant in LeClaire.
Raul enjoyed keeping fit and loved to run and bicycle. He finished one marathon and two half marathons.
He had the greatest love for the Original Addicts on Asphalt and Friends of Bob and Bill. “Just for today.” “One day at a time.”
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Christine; son Rick (Molly) Tamayo, Davenport; daughter Dawn (Fred) Correa, Colona, IL; grandchildren Paul Tamayo, Rock Island, Ashley (Said) Lopez – Becerra, Davenport, Alex Correa, Buffalo, IA; great grandchildren Drayden and Lucy Tamayo, and Michael and Caleb Lopez; sisters Gloria Groom, Moline, Olivia (Mike) Devlin, Davenport, Liz Miday, Davenport, brother James (Rikki) Tamayo, Saugerties, NY, who donated bone marrow to Raul; caregiver Donna Teel, Davenport; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Tonya Tamayo – Lohf, brother Joe Tamayo, sisters Rochelle Likeness and Eva Porter, and parents.
