Ramona Marie (Ortiz) Olson, 76, Tucson, AZ, formerly of Davenport, passed away on Wednesday, February 05, 2020 at Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson after an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18 at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with visitation following until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 17 at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.
Ramona Ortiz was born November 17, 1943, in Davenport the daughter of Maurice Ortiz and Mary (Joseph) Lopez. She was united in marriage to Loyal V. Olson on May 04, 1968 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Chicago, IL, after his return from serving in the Vietnam War. Ramona attended St. Anthony School, was a 1962 graduate of Davenport High School, and was a 1997 graduate of Teikyo Marycrest University, Davenport. Ramona majored in Spanish at Teikyo Marycrest University and studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico as part of her studies.
Loyal and Ramona owned Olson’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Davenport for a number of years. She was active in politics for many years, often serving as a delegate from local to national levels.
Ramona’s greatest love was her family, and she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her interests and hobbies included traveling and learning about other cultures, cooking, playing bingo, and arts and crafts. Ramona loved traveling and experiencing other cultures. Her fondest memories included traveling all over the United States and international trips to Ireland and Mexico. She lived in numerous places throughout her life, including: Chicago, IL; Albuquerque, NM; Puente Grande, Jalisco, Mexico; and Tucson, AZ. Ramona’s cooking skills were legendary, and many people fondly remember her delicious food.
Survivors include her daughters Andrea (Russell) Fulgham, Amelia Olson, and Dr. Simona (Aaron) Seastrand, all of Tucson; grandchildren Jake, Jarrod, Alexandria, Emily, Ariel, Natalia, Ethan, and Astrid; sisters, Janis Lopez-Kroeger, Davenport, and Lori Hansen, Albuquerque, NM; brothers Gary (Ruth) Lopez, Iron River, MI, and Peter (Martha) Lopez, Aliquippa, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Kathy (Ortiz) Reyes.
