Ralph E. Kroy, 93, of Bettendorf, died Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting Holy Family Facebook Page Visitation will be Friday at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Handicapped Development Center.
Ralph Edward Kroy was born on February 6, 1930 in Davenport, a son of Harry and Bernice (Keeler) Kroy. He graduated with a degree in accounting from St. Ambrose College and proudly served our country in the Air Force during the Korean War. Ralph was united in marriage to Irene D. Cummings on October 13, 1953 at McCoy Air Force Base, Orlando, Florida. They shared over 66 years of marriage prior to Irene’s death on January 28, 2020.
Ralph retired as Comptroller at the Rock Island Arsenal in 1987 following 30 years of service.
Ralph was an active member of Holy Family parish for many years, and a past member of the parish council. He volunteered at Geneses East and West as well as Trinity Hospital at the information desk for many years. Athletics played a large role in Ralph’s life, as he enjoyed coaching his children and refereeing and umpiring youth sports. He had a great love for the game of golf with two holes-in-one to his credit and belonged to multiple leagues. Ralph also enjoyed fishing. For over 40 years you could find Ralph (and perhaps Irene too) at the Circle Tap where he grilled hamburgers on many Saturday’s after golf league.
Survivors include his children: Lynn Kroy, Jody (Michael) Mapes, all of Bettendorf, Timothy (Donna) Kroy, Denver, Colorado, Julie (Bob) Wiese, Sibley, Iowa, Eileen Ray, and Carol (Dennis) Friedrich, all of Montrose, Colorado; grandchildren: Christopher Mapes, Stephen (Kate) Mapes, Erin (Adam) Crigger, Emily (Roy) Guerard, Elsa Wiese, Augusta Wiese, Owen (Nicole) Wiese, Francis (Ashton) Reiter, Benjamin Ray, and Brock (Christina) Freidrich; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Colin, Julia, Rachel, Eleanor, Noah, Caleb, Boaz, Faine, and Kail; and a sister-in-law, Bernadine Welton, Florida.
In addition to his wife, Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Kroy. May they rest in peace.
