Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph William Brimeyer, 86, of Bettendorf, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at St John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf.  Private burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Visitation will be from 9 – 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

 

Mr. Brimeyer passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Genesis East, Davenport, surrounded by his family.

 

Ralph was born September 16, 1937, in Balltown, IA, a son of Alphonse and Elenora (Hansen) Brimeyer. He spent his childhood years in Balltown, graduating from St. Francis of Assisi Grade School.  He then attended and graduated from Loras Academy in the ROTC program, achieving the rank of Captain.

 

Ralph married Evelyn Gansemer at Holy Cross Church in Holy Cross, IA on October 5, 1957.  They moved to Chicago where he worked at Niesner’s Store.  In 1961 Ralph and Evie moved back to Iowa where he began working for PPG Industries.  They moved to De Witt in 1963 where they lived for 15 years.  Ralph and Evie moved to the Quad Cities in 1978. 

 

In 1983 Ralph started RW Brimeyer Sales.  He was a manufacturer’s rep for architectural glass and aluminum products.

 

Ralph enjoyed many hobbies including pheasant hunting, snowmobiling, boating, attending stock car races, attending the Indy 500 (41 times), talking on the phone, spending time with family, Google Earth, and FOX News.  A favorite activity was family vacations, particularly to Devil’s Lake/Wisconsin Dells area.

 

Ralph’s Catholic faith was very important to him.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered frequently at church.  Mealtime prayers always included a Hail Mary. 

 

Those grateful for having shared in his life include his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Brimeyer, 3 children: Patty Daniel (Tom) of Davenport, Iowa, Janice Morris (Jim) of St. Albans, Missouri and Joe Brimeyer (Melissa) of De Witt, Iowa;  8 grandchildren Claire Pittman (Nate), Kate Losasso (Jimmy), Maggie Yancey (Joseph), D.J. Morris (Jessica), Mary Kate Boyle (Jack), Ryan Brimeyer, Rachel Nelson (Ethan), Isabel Brimeyer (Nick); 7 great grandchildren; sister Marge Huber of Dubuque, IA; in -laws: Jane Brimeyer, Patricia Gassman, Mary and Paul Schmitt, Joan and Margaret Gansemer, Bob and Joan Gansemer and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters in law: Robert (Lucille), Lester, Vince (Alice), Willard (Rita) and Francis, sister-in-law Anne (Dick) Westhoff.

 

Memorials may be made to Saint Joan of Arc Foundation, Bettendorf, IA, for the construction of the new Catholic school in Bettendorf.
