Phillip L. Loken, 86, of Davenport died peacefully on March 6, 2025 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.
The funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Phillip will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 – 18th Street, Bettendorf. The burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport, with additional visitation Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the gathering space at church. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, or Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.
Phillip was born on February 19, 1939 in Sibley, Iowa, son of Harley L. and Dorothy (Conway) Loken. He attended St. Ambrose Academy and St. Ambrose College. Phillip was united in marriage to Barbara L. Viggos on December 27, 1958 in Davenport. They shared over 66 years of marriage together, having seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Phillip was a devout Catholic and a true family man.
Phillip worked at Alcoa for 39 years and retired in 1998. In retirement, he worked at Grampp Realty and Barron Equipment Company with his son, Peter. Phillip had many hobbies including golf, fishing in Canada, playing cards, and traveling with his wife and family. Phillip enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Phillip looked forward to his monthly get together with his Alcoa friends and meeting up with his high school classmates for dinner club. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Barbara.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara, Davenport, children Mary (Greg) Borders, Bettendorf, Joe (Lisa) Loken, Davenport, Kathy (Mike) Hayward, Bennington, Nebraska, Laura (Patrick) Finn, Davenport, Michael (Cindy) Loken, Bettendorf, Julie (Peter) Bush, Davenport, and Peter (Gina) Loken, Davenport; many adoring grandchildren Katie (Chris) Carter, Tim Conrad, Taylor Borders, Joey(Kristi) Loken, TJ Loken, Chris Loken, Anna (Wes) Maass, Michael (Alicia) Hayward, Rachel (Colin) Higgins, Melissa (Jamie) Bishop, Morgan Finn, Sean Finn, Peter (Deborah Lherrison) Finn, Elizabeth Finn, Andrea Cavazos, Mia Arriola, Marybeth Bush, Catherine (Ryan) Elble, Daniel (Shayla) Bush, Stephanie Bush, Lauren Loken, Madeline Loken. Great grandchildren Kaia, Cael, Crue, Kollyns, Leo, Owen, Dean, Meredith, Baby Loken, Hadlee, Daphne, Sebastian, Charlotte, Charlie, Henry, Hudson, and Penelope; brother-in-law, Bob Lundquist, Davenport, nephews John Viggos, Mike (Dawn) Wardlow and nieces Shelly Viggos, Stephanie (Steve) Cenedella, and Beth (Chris) Turkle.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harley and Dorothy Loken, his mother-in-law, Betty (Ken) Anderson, father-in-law, John Viggos, sister-in-law, Patricia Lundquist, brother-in-law, John David Viggos, brother-in-law, Denny Wardlow, and sister-in-law Elaine Coffey. May they rest in peace.
