Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Paul Joseph Murphy, 69, a resident of Davenport, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. The family will greet friends Monday, November 13 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport, a prayer service will be offered at 6:30 that all are encouraged to attend. There will be an additional visitation at the church Tuesday for one hour prior to the mass time. Paul died unexpectedly Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport.
Paul Joseph Murphy was born August 20, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William L. and Celeste (Kulp) Murphy. Paul graduated from St. Joseph High School, DeWitt in 1967. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Paul was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Frohboese on September 30, 1972. Paul was a member of Local 25 Plumber and Pipefitters Union. He had been employed at Northwest Mechanical prior to his retirement in 2005.
Paul was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, the St. Patrick’s Society, and was a regular blood donor for more than twenty years. You would see him wearing his love for the Irish all year long and especially enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Hawkeyes and celebrating his Cubbies win the World Series. Since his retirement, he has enjoyed farming with his brother, Gerry, and being able to share that with his grandson, Lucas. He was happiest when he was spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, Lucas and Ainsley, and his grand dogs.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Victory Foundation, Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or St. Patrick’s Society of the Q-C.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathy; his children, Erin Murphy (Christopher Currie), Algonquin, IL, Vincent (Kelly) Murphy, Davenport, Sara Murphy (Megan Oliveri), Phoenix, AZ, Molly Murphy, New River, AZ; two grandchildren Lucas and Ainsley; his mother, Celeste Murphy, siblings: Kathryn (John) Martin, Gerald (Pam) Murphy, Donald Murphy, David Murphy, Brian (Deonne) Murphy, Thomas (Cindy) Murphy, Mary (Albert) Hess, Jill (Craig) Wriedt, Mark (Becky) Murphy, James (Karen) Murphy, Steven (Sue) Murphy, Michael (Janice) Murphy, all of Scott County, Iowa; Joanne Barnabas, Woodbridge, VA, Carol Murphy (Kentucky), Kansas City, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
