Patrick N. Walseth, 98 of Bettendorf passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service offered at 4 p.m. There will be additional visitation Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass in the gathering space church.
Patrick was born on April 2, 1926 in Lake Benton, Minnesota, a son of Edwin T. and Genevieve (Noonan) Walseth.
He served our country in the U.S. Navy in World War II and his ship, the USS LSM 43 participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima. He later was transferred to a naval base in Iceland before being discharged in 1946.
Patrick was united in marriage to Joan M. St. Germain on May 26, 1951 at St. Columba Catholic Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2016 following 65 years of marriage.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and started his career with Deere & Company in 1950 at the Materials Engineering Department. He later served in management at Deere factories in Monterrey, Mexico, Madrid, Spain, East Moline Foundry, and was the first works manager at the newly opened Davenport Works in 1973. Mr. Walseth retired in 1982 after 32 years with Deere & Company.
Pat was an avid golfer and was a long-term member of Crow Valley Golf Club. He was active in the community as a board member of Mercy Hospital and became a board member and president of the Family Practice Resident Program sponsored by both Mercy and St. Luke’s Hospitals. Pat was also a board member and president of Family Resources in Davenport. He was active as a lay member of various committees at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and a board member of the Catholic Endowment of Bettendorf, Iowa, Inc. Pat was also a 20-gallon blood donor at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center.
Those left to honor his memory are his children: James (Kathleen) Walseth, Oregon, Stephen Walseth, Moline, Gregory (Sheryl) Walseth, Oklahoma, Germain Walseth, Bettendorf, and Theresa (Steven) Boland, Minnesota; grandchildren: Abraham, Patrick, Olivia, Katherine, and Greer.
In addition to his wife, Joan, Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edwin T. “Tom” Walseth, Jr. May they rest in peace.
