Patricia Ann May, 79, a resident of Davenport, peacefully passed surrounded by her three amazing children Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Pat was born November 5, 1942, in Iowa City, the daughter of John and Mary (Grim) Donohue.
Pat was a Registered Nurse and worked as a Staff Development Specialist in the Education Department at the former Mercy Hospital, and later with Genesis Medical Center. In her retirement, Pat volunteered at the Adler Theater, Genesis Medical Center, and Our Lady of Victory. She enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, traveling, playing bridge, walking at the mall, and spending time with family and friends.
Pat was a devoted mother to her three children, raising them on her own for over 48 years. Her children always came first and were the reason she worked so hard professionally in the medical field. Pat’s constant devotion to her family shows how selfless she was as a mother, friend, and grandmother. She always put others first before herself, made sure others were happy first, and always wanted the best for everyone. Her smile and laugh were so memorable, and “To know her was to love her”. Pat’s love for her 5 granddaughters was so strong, she was always so proud of her family. No matter the day or time, Pat was always present cheering on her granddaughters as their biggest fan. Pat’s love of reading and learning extended through her children, always encouraging them to continue to learn throughout their lives as well. Striving to the best version of yourself was what she always wanted for them. Working hard all her life, Pat looked forward to retirement and never sat still for the past 10 years. She would say, “I am more busy retired than when I worked.” She continued to support her family’s activities, traveled internationally with friends, and volunteered with different organizations to keep herself busy. She was living the fullest life and had so much more to do. During her final moments with her children, Pat was able to show her adorable personality and accept her path to Heaven. She is at peace and will forever be her family’s Angel, cheering from above. She will always and forever be “Mommy”.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children and family, Matt (Michelle) May of Park Ridge, Illinois, Jennifer (Dr. Chris) Crome of Bettendorf, and Erin (Matthew) Kehret of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay and Maddyn May, and Caitlin and Kylie Crome; brother, Michael (Kay) Donohue of Cedar Rapids; niece, Meghan Riden; and nephew, Charles Donohue.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
