With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Olive Harriet Johnson, 80, of Davenport, IA. She passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Genesis East Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her. To honor her incredible journey a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday September 13th from 1-4pm in the Riverside Larchwood room at the Rhythm City Casino. Olive loved to play the slot machines and was very lucky in her winnings! We invite all who knew her to join us in remembering a truly remarkable woman. Daughter of Victor and Hattie Mercer, Olive was born on February 2,1944 in Newfoundland, Canada. She grew up surrounded by her six siblings. Olive moved to Oahu, Hawaii in the early 1960’s. She married her husband of 48 years, John Johnson on August 28,1976 in Honolulu, HI. Olive later lived in Germany and California with her husband and children before settling in Davenport, IA. She worked and retired from the Davenport Community School District as a para educator.
Olive enjoyed traveling with family. She visited many countries and loved taking road trips. She loved playing in the rain with her grandchildren and taking them shopping. Olive also loved to play the slot machines and take trips to Las Vegas with her daughters. On her downtime she enjoyed snuggling on the couch with her dog Jack. She was a force of nature and enjoyed living her life to the fullest and would never leave her house with out her wedge heels!
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, John; daughters Melinda (David Morales), Denise (Donald Long), Bonnie (Ron Lopes), Tonya (Mark Schlichting), and Oliwa (Skipp Jacobson). She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1great-great-grandchild on the way and her beloved dog Jack.
