A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma P. Saunders, 94, of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3pm until 5pm at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. A Rosary will be offered at 5pm. Additional visitation will be Monday at church from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. Norma passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Genesis East, Davenport.
Norma Pauline VanNatta was born June 13, 1923 in Grant County, Wisconsin, daughter of LeRoy and Florence (Quinlan) VanNatta. Norma managed the lunchroom at Central High School for 15 years, retiring in 1985. Norma married Omar Saunders June 29, 1943 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. He passed on January 17, 2003 after almost 60 years of marriage.
Norma was a member of St. Anthony’s, the Catholic Women’s League, and the Food Service Assocation. She enjoyed volunteering at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Norma loved quilting and spending time with her family. She also served on the Mississippi Valley Quilting Guild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kahl Home or to Scott County Humane Society.
Norma is survived by children: Mary (John) Kelley, Boston, Massachusetts, Jean Brownson, Maquoketa, Ann (Ray) Gomez, Bettendorf, Patrick (Becky) Saunders, Davenport and Joe (Ellen) Saunders, Parker, Colorado; grandchildren Jack Kelley, Jeanne DeAndre, Cathy, Jenny Brownson, Marty Brownson, Michael Brownson, Richard Gomez, Sarah Kirtcheff, Jolynn Kelsey, Kelly Fleener, Rachel Conder and Matt Saunders ; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, John (Carolyn) VanNatta, Moline and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Omar, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Francis VanNatta.
