Norbert Pranger

August 9, 1942 — December 25, 2020

Norbert S. Pranger, 78, of Davenport, died Friday, December 25, 2020 at home.  Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport.  The Mass will be livestreamed by visiting www.facebook.com/stpauldisciples Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the Mass in the gathering space at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Seminary of the Archdiocese of Dubuque where two of Norb’s grandsons are studying for the priesthood.

Norb was born on August 9, 1942 in Ft. Madison, Iowa, a son of Stephen J. and Clara (Bentler) Pranger.  He proudly served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Judith K. Menke on June 15, 1968 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ft. Madison.  They have shared over 52 years of marriage, memories, and worldwide travels together.

Norb retired from U.S. West after 36 years of service in 1996.  He was awarded the prestigious Spirit of Service Award in 1984.

Norb spent many hours volunteering with various organizations receiving multiple service awards for his dedication. He served as President of the Telephone Company Pioneers, was instrumental in bringing Lifeline to the Quad Cities, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Norb loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper.  He enjoyed playing softball and golf, but most importantly he cherished his grandchildren and enjoyed sharing his passions with them.  Norb and Judy traveled extensively throughout the world, including Russia, Europe, and multiple trips to Hawaii.

Survivors include his wife, Judith, children: Barbara Park, both of Davenport, and Robert (Maria) Pranger, Waterloo, Iowa; 15 grandchildren: Kathryn (Josh) Van Besien, Gabrielle (Kenzie) Elsbernd, Luke, Michael, Daniel, John, Gina, Vincent, Christopher, Dominic, Jakob, Anthony, and George Pranger, Elizabeth and Andrew Park; great-grandchildren: Anna and Augustine Van Besien; siblings: Arthur (Mary Jo) Pranger, Connecticut, Barb (Les) Groene, Iowa, Ralph (Carol) Pranger, Tennessee, Maurice (Barb) Pranger, Iowa, and Sandra (Dick) Philpott, Illinois; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Pollpeter, Iowa, Steve (Barb) Menke, Kansas, Kristi (Dan) Swanson, Texas, and Greg Menke, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

Norb was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis Pollpeter.  May they rest in peace.
