Neil Robert Rothbart, 71, of East Moline, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Unity Point Health - Trinity Bettendorf.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. The family will greet friends Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
Neil was born on June 3, 1952, the 7th baby born at the new hospital in DeWitt, Iowa, to Lowell D. and Darlene J. (Minnaert) Rothbart. Neil graduated from DeWitt High School in 1970 and then attended Career Academy and earned his certification in Radio and TV Broadcasting. He later attended Scott Community College and earned a certification in Hazardous Materials.
Neil married Loretta (Lund) and from their union had two children. He then married Joy (Kennedy) Marlowe. On December 15, 2018 he was united in marriage to Laura Rojas.
Neil worked at Caterpillar from 1973 until 1988. He then went to work for Job Training Partnership Act as a job training advisor and project coordinator. In 1993 he began working at ALCOA, now known as Arconic, and retired from the plate mill department on August 1, 2017. He was a member of the Steelworkers Local 105.
Neil was a “Grand Mound” boy who loved the country feel of his hometown. He enjoyed archery, shooting guns, horses in his younger years, and loved going on long drives on country roads. He was a “grill master” who enjoyed feeding others and was known for his meat and potatoes.
Survivors include his wife, Laura, East Moline; children: Cory Rothbart and Jaime Rothbart, both of DeWitt; stepchildren: Jon (Susan) Marlowe, Welton, Iowa, Chad (Desiree) Marlowe, Oswego, Illinois, Jodi (Steve) May, Davenport, Adrienne Gabriel, Orlando, Florida, Christopher (Kori Korthals) Gabriel, Silvis, Illinois; grandchildren: Carter and Chloe and many other loving grandchildren; siblings: Gail Votroubek, Davenport, Dean (Pam) Rothbart, Shorewood, Illinois, Kurt (Sharon) Rothbart, and Jean Lewis, all of Tucson, Arizona, many nieces and nephews, and a good friend, Scott (Connie) Argo, Park View, Iowa.
Neil was preceded in death by an infant son, Lee, his parents, and a brother-in-law, John Lewis. May they rest in peace.
