Nancy Jeanne (Plantz) White, aged 90, died peacefully at her home in Ft. Calhoun, NE on January 22, 2023.
Nancy, born to Nina (Binns) and Truman Plantz Jr., grew up with siblings Truman III, Nina, Andrew, and Helen in a beautiful home in Rock Island, IL. She met Don White on a blind date in her senior year at Rock Island High School. Nancy was Don’s child bride for more than 59 beautiful years, raising 8 children, making homes in Rock Island, IL, Davenport, IA and Newburgh, IN. The couple endured the deaths of two sons yet built a strong marriage while practicing joy and humor. Their legacy continues through their surviving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to being a phenomenal mother, Nancy created an impressive career at Cox Cable as a customer service supervisor and was known for both her mentoring skills and ability to upsell cable packages. She also supported her husband’s work as a sportswriter. Nancy accompanied Don as he covered a wide range of sporting events.
Nancy was creative and had a flare for home interiors and fashion. She was a comic, a singer, a dancer and gifted with playing piano by ear.
Above her door, the credo “There are no strangers here, just friends we haven’t met.” She lived by those words to the very end. She charmed, loved, and cared for friends, co-workers, and neighbors she met through her life. Her friends and family consider themselves blessed and lucky for having known her.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Don, sons Kevin and Mark, son in-law Jim Duggleby, great grandchildren Addan and Bella, and by her siblings and in-laws. She is survived by daughters, Wendy Duggleby, Davenport, IA; Kathy (Tony) Zabloudil, Edmond, OK; Nina (Steve) Tisinger, Omaha, NE, and sons David (Donna) White, Boonville, IN; Michael (Vickie) White, Evansville, IN and Donn (Art Sousa) White, Portland, OR. She is remembered by her 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and also great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed supportive and loving relationships with her nieces and nephews.
Members of Nancy’s family would like to share gratitude for the caring team of Autumn Pointe Assisted Living Community and the hospice care team from Endless Journey.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 28 at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport, IA. Burial will be at Memorial Park, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Friday, January 27th 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, IA. The family invites you to pray the rosary with them at 6:30 pm to close the visitation. Additional visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 am. Funeral Mass to begin at 11:00 AM at the church.
A memorial service for Nancy at Autumn Point in Ft. Calhoun, NE is being planned for a future date.
