Monty David Mitchell was born on May 15, 1951 in Mason City, Iowa, a son of David E. and Arlene V. (Sindt) Mitchell.  He graduated from Mason City High School in 1969 and Iowa State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 1973.  He married Rhonda Wilson on June 21, 1974 in Mason City, Iowa and later was united in marriage to Kathleen McGinn on July 7, 2017 in Davenport.

Following graduation from ISU, Monty went in search of a job opportunity, and settled in Davenport.   He went to work at Platt’s Nursery then William Wehner and Associates where he met David Hasenmiller.  In 1981, Monty and David started Suburban Landscape Associates. They were awarded the Iowa Small Business of the Year in 1991 from the SBA and had the opportunity to be recognized in the Rose Garden at the White House by President George H.W. Monty was a member of the Q.C. Homebuilders Association, LPYC, Davenport Country Club and Crow Valley Golf Club.  It was always 5 o’clock somewhere in Monty’s eyes, and he was a regular fixture at the Stockade in the Village of East Davenport.  Monty was a lifelong Cyclone and Hawkeye fan and enjoyed visiting Florida, playing golf, and boating in his free time.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
