Michael Whitney

Michael Eugene Whitney, 40, of Davenport, passed away, Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Genesis East Medical Center. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Michael was born on July 26, 2022 in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Leonard Dawson and Martha Whitney.

Michael was a very loving and caring man.  He was always trying to cheer anybody up that may be having  a bad day. He enjoyed watching basketball, baseball and wrestling.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.  He was never angry, not even if you called him Eugene! Michael was very big on manners and kept the children in the family in check.  Raising his own children he would use exercise as punishment.  When getting dressed he had to have his hat and a chain.  He loved loud music and having his drinks, which cause his silliness to really shine.  He found joy and trouble spending time with his best friends. (Just ask the wives)  Above all, he cherished his family, especially his children and granddaughter, and the time he spent with them.  He will be deeply missed by many.

Those left to honor his memory include his fiancé, Jessica Johnson; son Keylin Brown; daughter Isabella Shane; granddaughter Amyra; mother Martha (Paul Smith) Sweetland; siblings, Matthew Whitney, Amanda Whitney, Heather Whitney, Leonard (Kris) Dawson, II, Twyla Franks, and Shiann Franks; niece and nephews Hunter Whitney, Amaziah, Arieonna and Astayjah Hollingshed, Gabriel and Olivia Dawson, Alayah Franks and Canaan Harris; grandmother Helen Shane; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, cousin Johnny Frees and nephew Keegan Roe.
