Michael Sidney Stemlar, 67, a resident of Davenport, IA, died peacefully in Davenport on January 19, 2024. Visitation for Mike will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. A private service will follow with Mike laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.
Mike (Sid/Pike) Stemlar was born July 15, 1956, the son of John Sidney Stemlar and Barbara (Cramer) Stemlar. With Donny Osmond good looks, and widely known as “Sid the Kid”, Mike graduated from West High School in 1974 and The University of Iowa in 1978. In high school, he was a star basketball player, letterman, and member of the 1974 Iowa State Boys Basketball Tournament team. After college, he was a regular in pickup basketball at the YMCA, where his moves were legendary. Mike had an extensive career in banking and eventually commercial real estate where he was always “doing a deal”. The Love of Mike’s life was his daughter, Elizabeth, whom he spoke about constantly. Mike was proud of her accomplishments in track and field, drama, choir, and the life that she had built with her husband Alex.
Those left to cherish his memory, include his daughter, Elizabeth (Alex) Rankin; siblings, Tom Stemlar, Indianapolis; Kathy (John) Weigand, Glen Ridge, NJ; Sharon Theuerkauf, Bettendorf; and Anne Stemlar, Boston, MA; his ex-wife, Luann (Schwartz) Stemlar; nieces and nephews Patrick (Brooke), Jack, Sidney, Grace, April and Nick; and his beloved cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sidney Stemlar and Barbara Joyce Stemlar.
