Michael E. Rock, 76, of Davenport, died Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Genesis East, Davenport following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. prior to the Mass in the Gathering Space at the Cathedral.
Michael Emmet Rock was born on July 25, 1947 in Evanston, Illinois, the oldest son of Dr. J. Gordon and Marilyn M. (McHugh) Rock. He graduated from Creighton University in 1969 and Creighton University School of Law in 1972.
Mike was an accomplished attorney, serving the State of Iowa for over fifty years. He was passionate about his career and over the years many clients became his cherished friends. When someone needed help, Mike was always prepared to provide the support needed.
Mike enjoyed spending his free time riding one of his many motorcycles and “tinkering” or working on projects everywhere from fixing a watch to rehabbing a house. He firmly believed you can accomplish anything if you just think outside of the box. There was nothing Mike couldn’t find a solution for. He was an accomplished golfer, with numerous holes-in-ones and double eagles. He loved a good competition on the course and was a multiple year winner of the Davenport Country Club Championship, as well as many other tournaments. He passed on his passion for hard work and love of golf to his children, and that is something he was most proud of.
Those left to honor his memory are his children: Kelley Rock and Michael Rock; lifelong partner, Theresa Rock; sister, Mary Terese Rock and brother, Chip (Barbara) Rock; nephew, John Gordon Rock and niece, Sarah Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Elizabeth “Betsy” Ruckman and an infant sister, Ann Rock. May they rest in peace.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
