Merle J. Mendez

   Merle J. Mendez, age 86, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at his home. Services will be at 10:45 am, Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with the family greeting friends from 9:30 until time of service. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island.

   Merle was born on February 2, 1936, in Iowa City to Joseph and Manuela (Sanchez) Mendez. Merle was a veteran having served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Case IH after many years in the custodial department. He enjoyed working with his son Tony at the family’s restaurant and feeding the squirrels. He was a car enthusiast, but especially the Chevrolet Impala. Most of all Merle enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

   Survivors include his wife, Carlene; son, Richard Miller; daughter-in-law, Cindy Mendez; Significant other, Moira Bradford; grandchildren, Mercedes Mendez, Harold Lewis, Eric Miller, and Madeline Miller; and numerous brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sherry Lee, son, Tony, and numerous brothers and sisters.
