Dale Sims

Melvin “Dale” Sims II, 51, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Genesis East, Davenport.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a Time of Sharing starting at Noon.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Dale was born June 11, 1970, in Davenport, son of Melvin and Frances (Cashin) Sims.  He was united in marriage to Maria Cardenas on September 12, 2009, in Davenport.

He worked for Arconic the past eleven years as a Truck Repair Mechanic.

Dale loved all things mechanical and could fix anything.  The family saying was, “If Sims can’t fix it, we’re all screwed!” He was definitely one of the good ones; genuine, kind, humble, nonjudgmental, and overall a wonderful man. He adored and cherished his wife Maria and loved being Papa Sims to all his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Maria of Davenport; children Graydon (Essie) Sims and Megan (Nathan) Watson of Clinton, TN, Cecilia Cardenas of Davenport, and Brandon Van Winkle of Bend, OR; grandchildren Donald and Robert Sims, Josiah and Jonah Watson, Ascelina and Alejandro Cardenas; mother Fran (Mike) Thibodeaux of Davenport; father Melvin Sims of Hamilton, AL; siblings Charles Sims, Tina (Greg) Sims-Steinbeck, Sherry Upton, Marcus Thibodeaux, and Stacey (Charles) Smith.

He was preceded in death by son Alejandro “Alex” Cardenas and stepmother, Lenora Sims.
