Melvin Marxen

April 20, 1949 — September 21, 2018

Melvin E. Marxen, 69, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, September 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  The rite of cremation has been accorded and burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.  Graveside services will be noon, Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the National Cemetery.  If you would like to attend the committal service please meet at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport by 11:30 am Thursday to join the procession. A luncheon will follow from 1:00 pm - 5:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 1111 W. 35th St. in Davenport.

Melvin Earl Marxen was born April 20, 1949 in Davenport the son of Edward and Amanda (Waack) Marxen.  He graduated from Davenport West High School class of 1967.

Mel was united in marriage to Cynthia “Cyndie” Kononovs on August 1, 1981.  They have been blessed with 37 years of marriage.

He was proud to have served our country in the US Army serving during the Vietnam War.

He was employed as a machinist, and had worked in machine shops at IH, Foley Enterprises and ESCP Corporation retiring in 2014.

Mel was a classic car enthusiast, and a Chevy fan, he loved his dogs and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson.

Memorials can be made to the family.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Cyndie, Davenport; sons and a daughter-in-law, Nate (Kolbi) Marxen, Muscatine, and Tom Marxen, Davenport; sisters-in-law, Linda White, Davenport and Sylvia (Gary) Adair, Florida; and his beloved dog “Roxy”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Vera and Teodors Kononovs, sister-in-law, Mary Roederer; and brother-in-law, Ivar Kononovs.
